It was really sad to see so many innocent people massacred in broad daylight by six armed men in Karachi. It is also sad to note that all the killers have escaped and none of them could be apprehended. As per sickening routine, the incident was condemned, and a day of mourning and monetary compensation were announced for those killed and injured in the incident.
How long will this state of affairs continue? The time has come to hand the security responsibility of Karachi over to the army. The military courts should be functional with full force. The police should be answerable to the army only with nobody in between. There is no need to establish any new force. It would be a waste of money and resources. The existing police force should be brought up to the required standard through regular short courses. Intelligence agencies should also be revamped and close coordination between all of them should be ensured. There is a limit to everything. Crime has to be stemmed at all costs. Only condemnation is not enough.
