BANNU: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Prof Ibrahim Khan Wednesday asked the government to introduce local government system in federally administered tribal areas (Fata) for eliminating terrorism from the region.
Speaking to a gathering of tribal elders who announced joining the JI, Prof Ibrahim said that the local government system in Fata would restore sustainable peace.“The inhuman Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) was a violation of the basic human rights and the main impediment to the progress in tribal region,” he added.
He said that tribespeople were demanding returning to their homes after successful military operation in North Waziristan. The government and security forces claimed to have cleared 90 percent areas, therefore, the displaced people should be repatriated to their native areas, he added. He urged the national leadership to consider the local government system in Fata as a national issue, adding, the empowered tribespeople would help the security forces restore peace.
