KARACHI: Burma Mohammadan clinched the title when they defeated Korangi Baloch 3-1 on penalty shootout in the final of the 12th I am Karachi Football League here at Baloch Mujahid Stadium on Monday.
The 1-1 draw in the regular time sent the clash into penalties where Burma Mohammadan prevailed to achieve the top honour.
Ijaz-ul-Haq, Mohammad Anees and Saeed-ur-Rehman hit goals for Burma Mohammadan from the penalty spot, while Saeed Aziz converted his penalty for Korangi Baloch.
Earlier, Noor-ul-Ameen put Burman Mohammadan ahead in the 14th minute. Korangi Baloch levelled it through a fine strike from Najeeb Ahmed in the 87th minute.
Salar Welfare Centre Malir edged Hunter Sports Malir 2-1 in the outing for the third place to win bronze.
Abdul Haleem and Mohammad Asif scored for the winners, while Imtiaz Ali hit the lone goal for the Hunter Sports.
Burma Mohammadan received a cash award of Rs200,000 while the runners-up Korangi Baloch went away with Rs100,000. Salar Welfare Centre got richer by Rs50,000.
The fair-play trophy with Rs10,000 went to Sixteen Star FC. A purse of Rs25,000 was given to Mohammad Anees (Burma Mohammadan, best player) and Ghulam Mustafa (Azad XI, leading scorer, 16 goals) while Rs20,000 was handed over to Adnan Khan (best referee). Similarly, Rs5000 each was given to Mohammad Islam (best manager, Burma), Abdul Ghani (best goalie, Burma) and Ameer Ahmed (emerging player, Askani Brothers).
Fazal Baloch supervised the final, while Javed Iqbal and Chaudhry Iqbal acted as line-judges. Abdul Karim was the match commissioner.
