FAISALABAD: A team of the Livestock Department Saturday arrested 172 butchers involved in illegal slaughtering of animals.
Talking to reporters, Livestock District Officer Dr Haider Ali Khan said following the directives of the DCO, the crackdown on illegal slaughtering was initiated.
He said the livestock department teams conducted some 2,716 raids in 621 markets and confiscated 11,541 kg substandard meat since the crackdown started.
He said 106 shopkeepers were challaned and a fine of Rs 42,000 was imposed on them during this period.
Haider said the crackdown on illegal slaughtering and sale of substandard meat would continue.
THALASSEMIA WALK: A walk was held to promote awareness in the people about Thalassemia disease at the DHQ hospital.
Principal Punjab Medical College Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Tirmazi led the walk.
Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Rauf, Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Habib Butter, in charge Blood Bank Dr Falakgeer, other doctors, paramedical staff and citizens participated in the walk.
Later, a seminar was also held at Nursing School Hall and speakers highlighted causes of Thalassemia disease.
They stressed the need of awareness about the disease to combat it. The participants made a commitment to promote awareness among the masses about Thalassemia to defeat it.
