ISLAMABAD: Lahore Qalandars picked South African master blaster AB de Villiers, while the Sixth Team chose Australia’s Steve Smith as their choice for the Platinum category at the players’ draft for the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) here on Tuesday.
Lahore also picked all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and retained Fakhar Zaman in the Platinum category.
For one available slot, Quetta Gladiators preferred Dwayne Bravo with Kieron Pollard set to represent Peshawar Zalmi from the Platinum category.Meanwhile, the Sixth Team also scooped all-rounder Shahid Afridi with Shoaib Malik already there as captain. The trio completes the Platinum picks for the team that is still looking for an owner.
Islamabad United have retained Luke Ronchi, Faheem Ashraf and Shahdab Khan in the major category. Karachi Kings also retained Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir in the Platinum category along with hard-hitting New Zealander Colin Munro.
Former Islamabad captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who helped his team win two PSL titles, will now be seen playing for Peshawar.Misbah had earlier decided to work as a mentor for Islamabad. But he changed his mind and decided to feature as a player in the fourth edition. Islamabad have selected Asif Ali, Mohammad Sami and Ian Bell for the Diamond category.
At Peshawar, Misbah will join Darren Sammy and Kamran Akmal in the Diamond category.Mohammad Rizwan, Sikandar Raza and Ravi Bopara will remain with Karachi in Diamond category.
For Quetta, Shane Watson, Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Nawaz will feature as Diamond category players, while Anton Devcich, Rahat Ali and Corey Anderson will be there in the Diamond category for Lahore.
For Sixth Team, Shan Masood, Qais Ahmad and Nicolas Pooran will be in the Gold category.Islamabad picked Nasir Nawaz and Mohammad Musa in the Emerging category. Sameen Gul and Nabi Gul will be in the Emerging category for Peshawar, while Mohammad Ilyas and Mohammad Junaid were selected for the Emerging category by the Sixth Team. Ghulam Mudasir and pacer Naseem Shah are Quetta’s players for the same category.
