Islamabad
For some, it’s good news and for some, it’s really bad.
The Met Office has forecast a five-day wet spell, which is to bring respite to people, especially those living in plains, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, from hot weather, but at the same time, could deal a shattering blow to growers busy harvesting wheat crops.
According to a Met Office official, the rains coupled with strong winds and thunders will begin in scattered areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, upper Sindh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday and will last until Wednesday.
The showers will be from light to moderate.
“A westerly weather system is to enter upper and central parts of the country on Saturday or Sunday and thus, causing rains and thunderstorm. It is likely to persist until Wednesday,” he said.
The official said rain thundershower and gusty winds were expected at isolated places in Islamabad, Rawal-pindi, Sargodha, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Quetta and Zhob divisions.
He said there was high likelihood of dust raising wind with rain thundershower hitting a few places in Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Quetta, Sibi, Zhob and Sukkur divisions.
The official, however, said mainly hot and dry weather would prevail in most parts of the country during the period.
He said the growers harvesting wheat should stay vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures to protect their crop against the inclement weather.
