KARACHI: Gwadar Port will berth the first private container vessel on the coming Monday (May 11), an official said on Friday.
It will be the first reefer container since the port’s completion in 2007. With this, Gwadar Port will begin using its existing multipurpose terminal.
The container vessel is named MV ZI JING SONG. The official said this containerised shipment service will initially focus on export of local fish to international market.
It is pertinent to mention that the port has been handling government’s seasonal cargo in the past. Government has been providing subsidy to the port for long.
The port is handling government’s imports, including fertiliser and DAP. This would boost local industry growth.
The official said the port operator, China Overseas Ports Holding Company Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, is working hard to start the first containerised shipment service at Gwadar.
The Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Secretary, Minister Fisheries Government of Balochistan, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy and other officials will witness the berthing ceremony.
