Excise officers accused of sending inflated tax notices From Our Correspondent GUJRANWALA: People have accused the Excise and Taxation Department of sending inflated property tax notices to them. Talking to The News here on Wednesday, the people said that the officials had sent property tax notices with 500 per cent increase for 2015/16 whereas the government had approved only a raise of 80 per cent. They alleged that the excise officers corrected the notices when they were paid bribe. They have demanded the high-ups concerned look into the matter and take action against the officers involved in corruption. When contacted, Excise and Taxation Director Rao Shakeel said that he had so far not received any complaint regarding inflated tax notices. He said that he would look into the matter if he was given any complaint.
Three cops booked for ‘illegal detention’ From Our Correspondent GUJRANWALA: On the orders of the CPO, Aroop police registered a case against its three policemen on the charge of keeping a man in illegal detention. In an application, Rana Shahzad alleged that ASI Abdur Rashid, Hawaldar Zakir and Constable Iftikhar had illegally arrested his brother Saadat and kept him in illegal detention. When contacted, Aroop police said that Saadat was still in the custody, facing the charge of armed looting.
