Teachers and professors are an asset. They prepare the younger generation for the future and polish them so that they can contribute towards progress and development of this country. Where are we heading? It seems now teachers and intellectuals are on the hit list.

This refers to the news report, ‘Another KU professor gunned down’ (April 30). Dr Syed Waheed-ur-Rehman was the second professor of the Mass Communication to be shot dead in the past one year. In the past Professor Shakeel Auj was shot dead under similar circumstances.
I just want to ask one question from law-enforcement agencies: How many more innocent lives will we lose? The late professor was among the best teachers of the department. To the world you may just be a teacher but to your students you are a hero.

The tragic death of Dr Waheed-ur-Rehman is a great loss for the teaching community and his students. He was a kind and devoted teacher.
The government should bring the culprits to justice and restore peace in Karachi.
