The Sindh transport minister has demanded transfer of Karachi Urban Transport Corporation (KUTC) from centre to the province to avoid further delay in circular railway project.
In a handout issued on Thursday, Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani alleged that owing to lack of attention and support on part of federal government, the implementation on the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project had been delayed for long.
He said the Sindh government had already requested formally to the Centre through a letter that the KUTC should be handed over to Sindh but to no avail.
The minister condemned the statement of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique that the KCR was a project of Sindh government, adding the KUTC, which was tasked with implementation of the KCR, was in reality a federal government’s organisation in which 60 percent shareholding was with federal government while rest was held by Sindh government.
“Out of 40 percent shareholding, 15 percent is held by KMC as the government had already announced that it would pay on behalf of the KMC for the latter’s share in implementation.”
