Biometric system launched

SUKKUR: Sindh government has launched biometric system for the disbursement of stipend under Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to beneficiaries.
The system was deployed at the BISP regional office Larkana as a pilot project. It will be established in other provinces of the country.
Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon, at the inauguration ceremony, said efforts are underway to increase number of beneficiaries up to five million by next year. A nationwide survey is in progress to include more deserving women in the social program.
Memon said the present system has failed to incorporate the profile of beneficiaries who are extremely poor and have low education to fully understand the payment mechanisms. She directed the officials to take action those who exploit the uneducated poor people during the withdrawal process. “It has been a problem for the last seven years and should be uprooted,” she said. “We have introduced the BISP committees comprised of the beneficiaries to resolve the issues.”
