The Pakistan Interfaith League (PIL) has strongly condemned the murder of the human rights activist, Ms Sabeen Mahmud in Karachi on Friday and urged the government to track down the culprits behind the heinous crime and bring all those involved in the crime to the book.
Sajid Ishaq, the Chairman of Pakistan Interfaith League, while expressing deepest condolences with the family of Ms Sabeen Mahmud, said that it was a shock for everyone but especially for those in the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who are working for peace, raising their voice for protection of human rights and for the resolution of conflicts through dialogue.
“We know that Ms Sabeen was engaged in work which was not approved by certain segments of the society. This makes it even more important that the culprits behind the murder of Ms Sabeen Mahmud be tracked and arrested and brought to justice according to the law,” the PIL Chairman said.
Sajid Ishaq, the Chairman of Pakistan Interfaith League, expressed concern that some leading human rights activists were targeted and killed over the past couple of years.
“The situation makes it even more important that the killers be arrested and facts behind the killing of Ms Sabeen be unveiled,” Sajid Ishaq said.
