SIALKOT: All arrangements have been finalised for the Cantonment Board elections to be held here today.
The candidates of leading parties as well as voters are showing great enthusiasm regarding the elections which are going to be held after 17 years. There are total 21,213 voters, including 11,210 male and 10,003 female, in the boards who would use their votes in five constituencies of the Sialkot Cantonment. More than 250 policemen would perform duty besides army personnel during the polls. In Ward No 1, Babar Ali Khokhar of PTI, Zahid Nadeem Shamsi of PML-N, Muhammad Aleem of PPP and three independent candidates, Imran Salam, Muhammad Mukhtar and Muhammad Zubair would contest while in Ward No 2, Gulrez Sheikh of PTI, Waheed Ahmed Malik of PML-N, Naveed Mughal of PPP and four other candidates, Alia Hina advocate, Rana Muhammad Iftikhar, Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Shahid Manzoor would contest. Likewise, in Ward No 3, Rashid Asif of PTI and Mushtaq Ahmed Qadri of PML-N, in Ward No 4, Sayed Ahmad Raza Shah of PTI, Malik Muhammad Ashraf of PML-N and Sheikh Muhammad Asghar, in Ward No 5, Atif Munir of PML-N and independent candidate Pervez Iqbal would contest. The main contest would be held between the candidates of the PML-N and the PTI as both parties are hoping victories of their candidates in the polls. Meanwhile, a special meeting of the polling staff was held in the chair of the Sialkot Cantt Station Commander in which it was unanimously decided that all necessary measures would be taken to hold the elections according to the code of conduct set by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
