FAISALABAD: Man itself is exposing the world to disasters through using natural resources irrationally, cutting trees and causing pollution.
Addressing a seminar, University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan stressed the need of tangible steps to face up to the challenges of environment.
An awareness walk was also held in connection with Earth Day from the Admin Block upto Faculty of Agriculture, UAF.
The seminar and wall were organized by the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences. The VC said like other countries, Pakistan is also facing environmental challenges such as degradation of natural resources and human health, vehicular and industrial pollution, effluent of industry, water scarcity, deforestation, population growth and air and water pollution, solid waste management, etc. He said unplanned increase in urbanisation and industrialisation had led to pollution in air, water, and land.

He said the soil fertility was weakening while the deforestation, massive pollution, melting of glacier and depleting ozone layer can wipe out parts of the world if corrective measures not taken.
The Institute Director Prof Dr Javed Akhtar said today the fifty percent of the population lives in the cities. As the population urban population grows, the effect of climate changes worsen. Therefore the workshop was themed at green cities.
FJWU dean Prof Dr Uzaira Rafique called for bringing meaningful change in a way as how we use natural resources.
