PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday directed the Election Commission (EC) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to correct registration of a voter in the list for the local government elections to be held on May 30.
A division bench comprising Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Abdul Latif Khan allowed the writ petition. It directed the Election Commission to correct and enlist the petitioner Qaiser Khan in his village council Noda in Union Council Torlandi in Swabi district.
During hearing, the petitioner lawyer submitted that he was first enrolled in Maneri Union Council. The petitioner then submitted an application with the Election Commission for registering his vote at Noda village council, but instead it was registered in another union council called Qalo Dheri of the Swabi district. The petitioner lawyer said that it was the fault of the Election Commission and not of the petitioner.
Similarly, the bench also sought complete record from the Election Commission in other similar cases, in which the voters were registered in other union councils due to which they cannot participate in the local government elections 2015.
In another case, Malik Yousaf Ali, a candidate for Rajar tehsil of village council Check Noda in Swabi district had filed the petition seeking his vote registration in his village council Check Noda.
