KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan and Sindh will play the first and PIA and Punjab-A will clash in the second quarter-final of Under-20 National Championship at Hockey Club of Pakistan here on Monday (today).
In last four league matches on Sunday, WAPDA thrashed Gilgit-Baltistan 9-0, Punjab-A defeated KP 4-2, Sindh beat Pakistan Education Board 2-1 and Sui Southern gas Company defeated PIA 3-1.
Two goals each by Junaid Manzoor, Shahbaz, Hamza Sajjad and Bilal Mehmood steered WAPDA to register third straight win. Junaid struck field goals in 3rd and 41st minutes. Shahbaz converted a penalty stroke in the 26th minute and a field goal in the 55th minute.
Bilal Mehmood scored goals in 42nd and 60th minutes and Hamza Sajjad converted a penalty corner in the 36th and a field goal in the 54th minute.
Fahad of KP stunned Punjab-A by scoring a field goal in the first minute. But KP failed to maintain the momentum and conceded three goals in the first two quarters. Mudassar of Punjab leveled the score in the 14th minute. Two more goals were scored by Asif Ali (28th) and Mohammed Asif (29th) minutes.
KP tried hard to reduce the margin and intensified their attacks but sturdy defense of Punjab frustrated their moves. In the 52nd minute Samiullah converted a penalty corner.
Sindh beat Pak Education Board in a hotly contested match. The Board struck the first goal through Mohammed Murtaza in the 15th minute but failed to capitalise on it.
Sindh’s Obaidullah leveled the score in the 17th minute. After that both teams initiated aggressive moves but faltered in their finishing.
In the 55th minute, Ansar Siddiqui scored a field goal to earn victory for Sindh.
Sui Southern Gas Company surprised PIA 3-1 in the last match. Both teams fought hard to grab the top position in their pool. SSGC struck the first blow in the 7th minute on a penalty corner taken by their captain Zeeshan Bukhari. PIA succeeded in equalising in the 40th minute through Owais-ur-Rehman.
Mohammed Zubair in the 50th and Mohammed Rizwan in the 55th minutes successfully converted penalty corners for SSGC.
