MULTAN: A truck driver with his family staged a demonstration against the Pakistan Railways in front of the railways divisional headquarters here on Saturday.
The truck driver, Rana Saleem, his wife and six children were chanting slogans against the Pakistan Railways.
Talking to newsmen, Rana Saleem said that he was crossing Pir Mukhtar Shah level crossing on Friday when a trench suddenly appeared in a road and his truck stuck there. In the meantime, a train hit his truck, smashing it into pieces. He alleged that the trench appeared due to the use of substandard material by the railway contractor. He said that the truck was the only source of income for him. He demanded the railways minister provide him compensation otherwise he with his family would commit suicide. He also demanded the minister quash a case against him.
Meanwhile, Railways police said that a case has been registered against the truck driver on the complaint of the stationmaster.
