FAISALABAD: Speakers have said that the knowledge-based economy is imperative to achieve the millennium development goal and address problems of the poor, especially in the third world countries.
It was echoed at the introductory session of an eight-day International Centre for Development and Decent Work (ICDD) PhD workshop while the formal inauguration of the workshop would be held today (Thursday) at the UAF New Senate Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Christoph Scherrer from the University of Kassel, Germany, said that the ICDD was an international multi-disciplinary network of universities from eight countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe while its headquarters was at the University of Kassel, Germany. He urged the scientists to solve the real world issues with the help of interdisciplinary approaches. He said that the trained manpower was one of the major tools to end poverty from the world.
Dr Andreas Burkert from the University of Kassel said that the ICDD was promoting interdisciplinary knowledge generation through courses at different levels. Students Affairs Principal Officer Dr Muhammad Younas, Dr Izhar Ahmad and others also spoke on the occasion.
It is worth-mentioning that the partner universities are the University of Kassel, Germany, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, the Egerton University, Kenya, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India, the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan, Mexico, the Universidade Estaduale de Campinas, Brazil, and the International Labour Organisation.
