KABUL: Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai has said demolition of financial and ideological sanctuaries was necessary for uprooting terrorism and extremism. He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan, including Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak at his office on Wednesday (April 15).
According to a press release issued by the office of Hamid Karzai, a copy of which is also available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), both the sides discussed various key issues of Afghanistan and Pakistan, particularly efforts for restoration of peace to both sides of the Durand Line. They hoped the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan could put an end to insecurity in both the countries through peace dialogue.
Expressing concern over the killing of tribal elders, clerics, women and children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Karzai stressed that for elimination of terrorism and extremism, their ideological and financial sanctuaries must be demolished.
Regarding peace with Taliban, Karzai said the issue should be resolved through mutual dialogue. “War and military operation is not the only solution rather it creates mistrust between the government and people,” he said.
