Under a comprehensive plan to mitigate forced loadshedding and tripping, National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDCL) has installed and replaced another 250 MVA power transformer at 220 KV grid station Bund Road, Lahore and started electricity supply to 132 KV grid stations of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), on Wednesday.
According to a spokesman, electric power system at 220 KV grid station mostly remained overloaded during summer season previously due to increasing electricity demand. Consumers of Lesco were facing forced loadshedding and excessive tripping, due to installation of transformers of 160 MVA at Bund Road Grid station. This is the third 250 MVA power transformer installed and replaced 160 MVA transformer at the grid station to cater for the needs of consumers, whereas the forth transformer is in the process of installation. It is pertinent to note that after installation of forth 250 MVA transformer at 220 kV Bund Road grid station, it will be one of the biggest 220 KV grid station with capacity of 1000 MVA at Lahore.
The grid station is connected with 500-KV Grid Station Sheikhupura (4-circuits), 220 KV Grid Station Kala Shah Kaku (2-circuits) & 220-KV Grid Station New Kot Lakhpat Lahore (2-circuits). Similarly 10 circuits of 132-KV Grid Stations Saidpur, Qartaba, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Sabzazar, Ravi and Orient Power Plant is also connected with this grid station. Hence, this grid station is a main source of provision of electricity to domestic, industrial and agri consumers of Lahore. Sabzazar, Saidpur, Allama Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Model Town, Township, Chung, Thokar Niaz Baig, Samanabad, Qartaba, Riwaz Garden, Shadman, Rehman Park are also being fed from this grid station.
The spokesman added the replaced 160 MVA transformers are also being installed at 220 kV grid station Sarfraznagar, 220 KV T.T Singh and 220 kV GIS Bandala to cope up with the increased demand.
