Counter Terrorism Office gets police station status

GUJRANWALA: Punjab IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera through an order gave the status of police station to the Gujranwala Counter Terrorism Office.
The police station, operated after the IGP order from Monday night, would now register and investigate cases and file challans. The police station after becoming operational registered five cases under the Anti-Terrorism Law and arrested banned Sipah-e-Sahaba former divisional president Qari Qasim, Pasrur district former president Qari Asghar and SSP member Hafizur Rehman while Tehrik-e-Jafria president Ghulam Abbas and Haidaria Youth former president Azmat Ali Shah were also arrested. The accused were charged of reviving their banned organisations and collection of funds. On Tuesday, the Counter Terrorism Police produced the accused persons before the Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 to seek seven days physical remand but the court sent them to the jail on judicial remand.
