KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) – the Pakistan’s only integrated power company – will supply 40 megawatts of electricity to a new cement plant of DG Khan Cement Limited in Hub, Balochistan, a statement said on Tuesday.
The power utility and the cement maker signed an agreement to this effect.
Under the agreement, KE will supply electricity from its Hub grid station, while DG Khan Cement (DGKC) will construct a line bay and a 12-kilometre long transmission line of 132-kilovolt.
“We have been working very closely with companies and organisations that are heavily involved in reviving the economy of the country, and DGKC is no different. We will continue to improve our network and will invest further so as to ensure a smooth and stable supply of electricity,” said Tayyab Tareen, chief executive officer at KE.
Raza Mansha of DGKC said the cement plant will have a capacity to produce 8,500 tons/day of cement and will be commissioned and energised by 2017-end.
“The plant will engage 6,000 workers during the development phase and provide employment to around 1,000 staff members on completion,” said Mansha.
