This refers to the letter, ‘The Nekokara case’ (April 3) by Tariq Khosa. The writer has correctly pointed out that the SSP’s only fault appears be that he resisted the orders of his superiors and advised the authorities concerned to be careful and not to repeat the Model Town fiasco. He has been thrown out of service under the government servant’s efficiency and discipline rules. He had given his written views to the interior secretary but could not satisfy him and other competent authorities and has been dismissed on what appears to be a case of insubordination and refusal to obey the orders of his superiors.
That is the view of his seniors and seems to be justified to a casual onlooker but the government service rules also provide government officers to always give correct advice to their superiors and political bosses even if it is at variance with their orders. Nekokara was probably following this rule and his own judgement in this particular situation. As it turned out at least three casualties were caused by the indiscriminate use of force by the police. There is merit in the writer’s advice to the government.
