PESHAWAR: The activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), the students wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), on Tuesday staged a protest against the alleged police raids on the hostels of University of Peshawar (UoP) and arrest of students.
They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the police and administration of UoP. The protesting students gathered in front of the Peshawar Press Club to stage the protest. Nazim IJT Peshawar Hassan Bashir was leading the protesters.
Later, speaking at a press conference, Hassan Bashir said that the police conducted raids on various hostels inside the UoP late at night and arrested several students. He said the action was carried out after the administration increased the university fees, a move opposed and resisted by the students. He said the UoP administration was trying to mislead the people about the actions and arrest of the students. He asked the provincial government to take note of the raids on hostels and arrest of the students, or else they would launch a protest campaign.
