MULTAN: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded the government carry out a survey of the wheat growing areas in south Punjab, which were destroyed by the unseasonal rains, and announce compensation for the affected farmers.
Addressing a farmers’ convention in Layyah on Monday, he demanded the chief minister launch a procurement drive in the province and ensure procurement of entire crop from the farmers. He said that the rulers should learn a lesson from the French revolution. He asked the farmers to unite for their rights. He said that the rulers were plundering the country with both hands. He said that banks were giving loans to the big landlords and industrialists instead of small farmers. He asked the farmers to change their thinking and stop supporting the plunderers.
JI Punjab ameer Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar, Kisan Board Pakistan president Sadiq Khan Khakwani, Kisan Board Punjab president Khurshid Khan Kanju, JI Layyah president Mubashir Naeem Chaudhry, former MPA Chaudhry Asghar Ali Gujjar and others also spoke on the occasion.
