Karachi A trader was shot dead by unknown assailants in the Sohrab Goth Industrial Area on Monday night. Salman Yousuf, 55, was targeted near a market located close to Janghar Goth. SHO Rana Haseeb said the victim, a trader who lived nearby, was heading to the market to buy groceries when two men on a motorcycle intercepted and shot him at close range. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The cause of death was stated to be two bullets to the head. Officials said the murder was apparently a targeted hit and that spent 9mm bullet casings had been found at the scene of the crime. A case was registered and investigations were underway.
Three gangsters killed Three gangsters were killed and a paramilitary soldier was injured in an operation by the Sindh Rangers in the city’s Defence Housing Authority late on Sunday night. A spokesman said an identified hideout of Saleem alias Dollar, a notorious figure of the continuing gang war in Lyari, was raided and, in the ensuing shootout, Saleem, Nawaz alias Dada and Zubair alias Muhajir were shot dead. A paramilitary soldier also sustained bullet wounds in the encounter but his condition was said to have stabilised after treatment at the Rangers Hospital. A sizeable cache of weapons including 19 SMGs, two LMGs, three MP5s and three grenades were recovered from the hideout. According to the Rangers spokesman, Saleem was linked with Lyari gangster Rauf Nagori, as well as Saeed alias Bharam, a criminal associated with a political party. “Saleem was heading a team of target killers who operated on a contractual basis and are responsible for a several high profile murders in the city,” he said, adding that the group was also tasked with generating finances. “From the information gathered, we know that Saleem and his men were currently planning an assassination attempt involving a senior law enforcement official.”
