The Food Department raided Shadman Market and fined Rs 50,000 on overcharging and profiteering.
Minister Bilal Yasin, during his visit to Liberty Market got arrested Baba Bashir, a fruit and vegetable seller, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Akram for profiteering and a fine of Rs 25,000 each was also imposed. Fiaz, an employee of a fruit seller, was arrested and a fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on profiteering. The minister issued a strict warning to the area magistrate and directed him to ensure the sale of daily-use items at prices fixed by the government. He said that people should boycott profiteers and inform the government about such elements so that immediate action could be taken against them.
Provincial Minister for Food & Chairman Cabinet Price Control Committee Bilal Yasin said the Punjab government had evolved an effective and coordinated monitoring system for maintaining prices of edibles at fixed level along with a substantial reduction in their prices. He said that under the system, duty magistrates visit Sunday bazaars and other trade centres of daily use commodities which have helped in stabilising the prices.
He expressed these views while talking to consumers during his surprise visit to different trade centres of Lahore including Shadman Market and Liberty Market. The minister said the government was aware of the problems of the common man and a coordinated and an effective government system had been set up in the regard under which continuous relief was being provided to people.
