Former Governor of Punjab Lt-Gen (R) Khalid Maqbool will inaugurate a two-day Annual Rose Show 2015, at a local hotel today (Saturday).
This show is eagerly awaited by the flower lovers, breeders and a large number of citizens who adore this beautiful gift of nature. After the inauguration, the venue and show will be open to the public for viewing and appreciating the multi-coloured plants, rightly classified as ‘queen of flowers’. The variety, colour and even number of roses carry symbolic meaning and most popularly and universally the rose is regarded as a flower of love in particular the red rose. And for this occasion, organisers have set up the show and planted over 14,000 saplings displaying over 80 varieties in 99 flowerbeds.
Historically the oldest rose fossils found in Colorado dating back to more than 35 million years. Roses were considered the most sacred flower in ancient Egypt, found in Egyptian tombs and known as ornamental plants, grown for their flower. Roses are used for commercial perfumery and cut flower crops. They are used as landscape flowers. Roses have medicinal uses and many species have good levels of vitamins and used as food supplements.
