KARACHI: Punjab, WAPDA, Army and Police were off to a winning start on the first day of the National Handball Championship which exploded into action at the Agriculture University in Faisalabad on Thursday. Punjab overpowered Higher Education Commission (HEC) 26-19, while defending champions WAPDA overwhelmed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 41-3. Army crushed Balochistan 39-1, while Police snatched a 22-20 victory against Railways. On Friday (today), Army will face Police, Railways will lock horns with Sindh, Punjab will meet KP, WAPDA will be pitted against HEC, Railways will meet Balochistan, while Sindh will fight with Police. Earlier, Chairman Sports Board of the Agriculture University Faisalabad Dr Ahsan-ul-Haq inaugurated the event. Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) is organising the slots. The semi-finals will be conducted on Saturday (tomorrow), while the final will be held on Sunday.
