PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday sought reply from the provincial government in a writ petition filed against the auction of a cattle market. A two-member bench comprising Justice Nisar Hussain Khan and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan issued a notice to secretary Local Government Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directing him to explain why the provincial government was auctioning the cattle market of a private person. The Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former provincial minister Arbab Ayub Jan had filed a writ petition against the provincial government, in which he claimed that the provincial government was auctioning his private cattle market in the city. The petitioner’s lawyer, Ghulam Mohayyuddin, submitted before the bench that the provincial government had sent a letter to the Administrator Auqaf, Peshawar directing it to auction the petitioner’s owned private cattle market named “Kala Cattle Market”.
