Faisalabad directorate tops HEC ranking
LAHORE : Faisalabad Division has been ranked on the top with 86 scores out of total 100 as the Higher Education Department (HED), Punjab, ranked the divisional directorates of colleges across the province.
Among all the nine directorates of colleges in the province, Lahore, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi have been ranked at the bottom with 63 scores each.
Gujranwala and Sargodha divisions shared the second position with 73 scores each. Multan Division’s score is 71, Dera Ghazi Khan's 70 while Sahiwal’s score is 67.
According to the raking criteria, each divisional directorate of colleges was given scores on the basis of evaluation of induction training, ADP review, pre-intermediate classes attended, voluntary pre-intermediate classes, science and arts exhibitions, monitoring visits of colleges and ceremonies for retired officers/officials, etc.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department Punjab has sought explanation from the principals of 164 public colleges. All the principals were directed to implement pre-intermediate classes campaigns but these colleges failed to follow the HED’s instructions.
Besides the displeasure letters, the Higher Education Department Punjab has also issued commendatory letters to the principals which properly implemented pre-intermediate classes campaigns in their respective colleges.
Rule of law to be ensured at PU: The newly-appointed Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad has said the administration will ensure rule of law in all affairs of the university and the principles of governance would be merit, transparency and accountability.
He said this while addressing a meeting of deans of all faculties at the committee room of his office here on Saturday.
The Punjab University Vice-Chancellor said no institution could deliver unless it followed rules and regulations. He asked the deans to create conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
He said the administration would introduce research-friendly policies and the focus would be on research which had economic impact for development of the country.
Dr Niaz said the administration would run the university affairs with consultation and provide maximum facilities to the teachers, students and employees.
He said the administration would make serious efforts for bringing the university among the top-ranked universities of the world and the administration really meant it.
The deans congratulated Dr Niaz on his appointment as the VC and said the university would progress under his competent leadership. They vowed to extend their cooperation to the VC for improvement in the standard of the university.
Meanwhile, the meeting participants also congratulated Prof Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi on his appointment as caretaker chief minister of Punjab.
In a press statement, they said Dr Hasan Askari was internationally-recognised intellectual and the whole academia was proud of him.
They said his appointment as caretaker chief minister was an honour to the academia.
