LAHORE ‘Teacher of Teachers’, Prof Pervaiz Vandal has this year completed 50 years of his continuous teaching and 75 years of his life, on Thursday. This milestone was commemorated by his students, friends and family with the launch of the ‘Pervaiz Vandal Award for Art and Architecture’ The Board of Trustees of the Award comprised of Ammr Vandal, Shaukat Nawaz Raja, Kalim A Siddiqui, Ahmed Pervez Mirza, Sajida H. Vandal, Rahila Shah, Arshad Chaudhry, Pervaiz Chishti, Shama Usman, Asma Chishti and Dr Omar H. Vandal. Prof Pervaiz Vandal, the mentor, was the chief guest at the ceremony which was attended by numerous old and new students, educationists, personalities from the field of art, architecture, culture and business. The Trustees, Chairman HEC Punjab - Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, Punjab Ombudsperson Dr Mira Phailbus, Dean of School of Architecture at Beaconhouse National University - Dr Gulzar Haider, Chairman Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners - Sikander Hayat Khan, Prof Rati Cooper, Prof Shahnawaz Zaidi, Dr Anis Siddiqui, President Institute of Architects Pakistan - Jahangir Khan Sherpao were among many who spoke of their experiences with their mentor Prof Pervaiz Vandal and highlighted the need for honouring the teachers in order to have a stronger nation. The purpose of the Award is to further the cause of education and research, where emphasis shall be on clarity of thought, intensity of details and outstanding craftsmanship covering the related field of work. The Award Committee appointed by the Trust shall be responsible for nominating and selecting the Pervaiz Vandal Award Laureates. The Award covers all fields of artistic endeavours ranging from the performing arts to the visual arts, including architecture and design. Any person who is a member of an accredited professional body, university rectors, and professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, art and architecture are eligible nominators for the Award.
