PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday disposed of the writ petition filed for disqualification of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and provincial assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Nisar Hussain Khan and Justice Qalandar Ali disposed the petition after the PHCBA general secretary, Muhammad Ayaz Khan withdrew it.
On the previous hearing, the PTI-led provincial government had informed the PHC that the chief minister and provincial assembly speaker had not issued any orders about the civil disobedience after the party chief Imran Khan’s announcement.
The KP chief secretary represented the provincial government and submitted written reply in the court. He stated that both chief minister and speaker had not issued any order to the government about civil disobedience.
The senior official stated in the reply that the petitioner did not submit any documents in support of the allegations against the chief minister and speaker. He requested the court to dismiss the writ petition. He termed the petitioner’s claim that the CM and speaker had abandoned their official activities and business in the province during the sit-in as incorrect.
In the petition, the general secretary had requested the court to restrain the chief minister and assembly speaker from holding their respective offices until the final disposal of the petition.
