‘Punjab’s remote areas have plenty of boxing potential’
LAHORE: Secretary Sports Punjab Aamir Jan said that overwhelming success of recently-staged Punjab Open Inter-Division Boxing Championship showed that Punjab has plenty of boxing talent; he expressed these views in a statement on Monday.
Aamir Jan said that Punjab Open Inter-Division Boxing Championship provided sufficient opportunity to boxers of far-flung and remote areas to express their talent. “The third position of DG Khan Division in the grand championship showed that Punjab’s remote areas also have plenty of boxing potential,” he added.
He further said that hundreds of young boxers including women featured in massive trials activity to book a berth in Punjab Open Inter-Division Boxing Championship. “The presence of British boxing star Amir Khan in the closing ceremony of Punjab Open Inter-Division Boxing Championship was also a great source of inspiration for local boxers. This championship is just the beginning. We will conduct more such grand boxing events in future”. Aamir Jan said that Sports Board Punjab has taken several effective measures for the promotion of boxing in the province. “We are quite upbeat to gain positive results of those effective measures in near future”.
He said Sports Board Punjab will continue to provide enough opportunities to the talented youth of the province in future as per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. “We are putting equal focus on all sports not only boxing. Sports Board Punjab will hold mega sports championships in other games as well in future,” he stressed.
