PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority raided a milk production unit in Abbottabad, a spokesperson for the authority said on Friday. He said the authority had received complaints about the milk unit.
KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority spokesperson Attaullah Khan maintained that the unit was functioning near Tanchi Chowk in Abbottabad. He said it was preparing milk from detergent and other chemicals. The official said five persons were handed over to local police station and the unit was sealed. He said that more than 300 litres of chemically prepared milk was discarded.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director Asad Ali sealed three bakeries on the Firdaus Road in Peshawar over non-compliance with food safety standards. Crackdowns are being carriedout across province to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food to general public. Another crackdown against adulterated milk was carried out in Dera Ismail Khan where 400 litres of contaminated milk was discarded and fines imposed on the milk-sellers.
