An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the physical remand of two suspected target killers belonging to a political party for seven days.
Kamran alias Munna and Muhammad Ali are facing charges of killing two people by opening fire in the Napier police jurisdiction.
After his arrest, Munna was interrogated by paramilitary Rangers for 90 days. During the interrogation, he admitted killing 17 people. After reading a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report about the suspect, the court remanded handed him over to the Napier police on physical remand for seven days.
ATC-VII awarded an extortionist, Muhammad Aslam, 10 years’ imprisonment. Judge Akhlaq Hussian Larrak said the charge was proved that Aslam had demanded Rs50,000 as extortion money from Dr Mukhtiar Ahmed in Gulshan-e-Maymar on February 18, 2014. After the complainant had paid Rs15,000, Aslam was arrested.
The court awarded five years’ imprisonment for possessing an illegal weapon and another five years’ term for collecting an extortion amount. He was also ordered pay a fine of Rs30,000, and in case of default on the payment he would have to face additional two years’ imprisonment.
ATC-X Judge Abdullah Afzal Khan awarded 10 years’ imprisonment to two extortionists each, Muhammad Haseeb and Muhammad Javed. The convicts had demanded one million rupees from Abdul Ghaffar as extortion money on September 24, 2014. Abdul Ghaffar and his family were threatened with death if the extortion money was not paid. However, when the culprits reached Fateh Park in North Nazimabad on October 1, 2014 to collect the extortion money, they were arrested by Haideri Market police.
