A senior deputy convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) coordination committee, Nadeem Nusrat, on Thursday demanded of the federal government to hold a trial against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on charges of sedition under Article 6 of the constitution.
The statement was made after the emergence of a phone call recording in which Khan had asked his party MNA Arif Alvi to not control the crowd which attacked the PTV station in Islamabad during sit-ins as a pressure tactic.
Nusrat said Khan’s real character had been exposed by the tape. He added that the PTI leader started lashing out at Altaf Hussain every time he was questioned about his daughter.
He said Khan had caused an immense economic loss to the country through illegal and undemocratic sit-ins.
The PTI chief had openly written in foreign newspapers about the party’s failures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said, alleging that traders and doctors in KP were compelled to either pay extortion money or leave the province. He also demanded of the PTI chairman to speak against the Taliban and openly condemn their attacks.
Nusrat said it was disappointing to see his joy over a video tape of a death row convict being released instead of discussing its legal pros and cons.
