Most food factories start using labels in Kohat: official
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority in collaboration with the Kohat district administration has been successful in ensuring company's labels on the wrappers of most of the factories in Kohat.
Talking to media on Sunday, Deputy Director Kamran Khan of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority had been committed to ensuring labels on wrappers with company's name, address, expiry date and ingredients. "The presence of labels has three main advantages. Firstly, for the businessmen, they can launch their own product and brand, which could help in their future sale and reputation," Kamran Khan said.
He said that due to the keen interest of the district administration, the inflow and outflow of products without labels were banned in Kohat, which forced the factories to act fast. Kamran Khan said most of the factories in Kohat were of ice-cream and papad, which earlier used wrappers prepared in Punjab, but after inspection of their factories by the food authority team, apart from other improvements like installation of insect killers, clean hygienic condition and usage of gloves and head covers, the factories have started using labelling.
Sharing the progress of the authority, Kamran Khan said that since March 29, 317 premises have been inspected, in which 227 were issued improvement notices. The official said that up to 830 litres of adulterated milk, 660kg harmful sweets, while 400kg, 120kg and 50 liters of expired salt, ghee and cold drinks, respectively, were disposed of by the authority. He said that apart from inspection of food outlets in Kohat district, the authority team had also visited the restaurants situated on Indus Highway up to Bannu district.
