MULTAN: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Major (retd) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said corruption has become a major challenge for the country and the whole nation was struggling against it as well as fighting against terrorism, sectarian hatred and poverty.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of establishment of Multan Region NAB offices, which will cater to the needs of southern Punjab people and help combat corruption in the remote belt. The regional office would entertain the people of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions.
Qamar Chaudhry said NAB was continuing its efforts to eliminate corruption in the country. The situation needs launching an organised comprehensive campaign against corruption at individual, collective and organisational levels. He said NAB is an apex organisation, struggling against corruption and corrupt practices and bringing to book those who are part of the corruption alliance. NAB has delivered goods in the last one-and-a-half years, and two new regional offices have been set up in Multan and Sukkur, he added.
He ordered formation of committees to unearth corruption and properly entertain corruption cases. He said NAB action would be extended to local government institutions to root out corruption at grass-roots level. He asked people to provide information about corrupt elements and support the NAB campaign against corruption.
NAB Multan Region Director General Squadron Leader (retd) Tariq Nadeem presented his welcome note. He said the NAB investigators were working under the motto of ‘No Fear, No Favour’ and fighting against corruption without any prejudices.
Parks and Horticulture Authority Chairman Khwaja Jalaluddin Roomi also spoke on the occasion. Multan CPO Sultan Ahmed, DCO Zahid Salim Gondal and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
