LAHORE: Rain saved Aqeel Khan from a possible defeat at the hands of second seed Muhammad Abid in the 2nd SNGPL All-Pakistan Tennis Championship 2018 here on Monday.
When rain came Abid was leading the points table. After winning the first set 6-3, Abid was well in control of the 2nd set at 4-2. But due to rain, that left the court wet, the tournament referee and management committee in consultation with the players decided to divide the prize money among both the finalists. Muhammad Abid got 60 percent prize money while Aqeel got 40 percent of it.
Meanwhile Sarah Mehboob outclassed spirited Noor Malik of ZTBL, while Muhammad Shoaib of SNGPL won doubles crown. He won Under-18 singles and doubles titles. In girls final Sarah Mehboob of Wapda beat Noor Malik 6-2, 6-1. Both females played some good tennis but in the end Sarah, who kept her cool, won the title.In Under 18 final Mohammad Shoaib of SNGPL beat his Saqib Umer 6-3, 6-3. In girls Under-18 final, Shima Tahir beat Maha Said 6-3, 6-0 and won the title.
In Under-14 final Hamid Israr of Peshawar won his third title. He beat Uzair Khan 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. In boys Under-12 doubles final Bilal Asim and Shaeel Tahir beat Ehtesham Humayun and Hamaza Roman in a three-hour match 7-6, 4-6, 10-7.
In Seniors 40 plus final Talha Waheed and Maj (R) Adnan beat Hassan Saeed and Muhammad Khaliq 6-2, 6-4, In 50 plus final, Arif Feroz and Muhammad Kahlid beat Nisar Waqar and Mian Amir Altaf beat 6-3, 6-2. In 60 plus final, Ahmed Babar and Brig (R) Ghazanfar beat Saeed Ikram and Mubeen Malik 6-1, 6-1. At the concluding ceremony Deputy Managing Director SNGPL Amir Tufail distributed the prizes.
