Punjab Open Boxing weigh-in on 11th

LAHORE: The trials of Inter-Division Punjab Open Boxing Championship have been completed in a befitting manner under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) and the participation of over 100 women from in the trials reflected that Punjab province had immense boxing talent among its females; this was stated by Secretary Punjab Boxing Association (PBA) Sharjeel Zia Butt while addressing an important meeting held under the chairmanship of Director Admin Javed Chohan at National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Deputy Director Tariq Wattoo, International referee Arshad Qureshi, Iqbal Shahid, SBP Security Head Col Shabbir Hussain, SBP PRO Abdul Rauf and PBA officials attended the meeting. The weigh-in of different class boxers will be held on May 11 and the Inter-Division Punjab Open Boxing Championship will be staged at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall from May 12 to 15, 2018.

Sharjeel Butt said that Sports Board Punjab under the directives of Secretary Sports Punjab Aamir Jan, made excellent arrangements for the 2-day boxing trials. “The trials were conducted in the presence of male/female doctors at two AIBA-standard boxing rings which is also unprecedented in the history of the country,” he elaborated.

“The large number of boxers from Attock to Sadiqabad took part in the trials activity in three classes - Elite Class (Boys), Youth Class (U-16 Boys) and Elite Class (Girls). And it happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that young boxers from remote areas of the province gathered in such a large number,” he added. Butt informed the meeting that boxers in different classes have selected for Inter-Division Punjab Open Boxing Championship. “Our top level jury members selected the boxers purely on merit and in this regard they have shown no leniency”. “Secretary Sports Punjab Aamir Jan will give huge prizes to winners and prominent performers of Inter-Division Punjab Open Boxing Championship. Overall 50 gold medals, 25 silver and 12 bronze medals will be distributed among the top pugilists of grand championship,” explained PBA Secretary Sharjeel Butt. Addressing the meeting, Director Admin Javed Chohan said the arrangements have been completed for the smooth holding of mega event. “All the boxers from far-flung areas of the province are being given every kind of facility during their stay in Nishtar Park Sports Complex,” he added.
