Top seed players through to SNGPL Tennis C’ship finals
LAHORE: All top seeded players qualified for finals of 2nd SNGPL All-Pakistan Tennis Championship here at the PLTA Courts Bagh-e-Jinnah on Saturday.
Secretary PLTA Rashid Malik, Sports officer SNGPL M Haroon, Chief Referee Arif Qureshi, and Faheem Siddique supervised the matches.
In the men’s singles first semifinal, top Seed Aqeel Khan beat Mohammad Shoaib by 6-0, 6-0. In the 2nd semifinal, M Abid beat Shahzad Khan by 6-4, 6-2.
In ladies singles semifinals, Sara Mehboob beat Shimza Tahir by 6-1, 6-1, while Noor Malik beat 3rd seeded Esha Jawad by 7-5, 6-3 in a very well contested match.
In men’s doubles semifinals, M Abid and Usman Rafiqe beat Abdil Haider and Zaid Mujahid by 7-5, 6-2 and qualified for final. The second semifinal will played on Sunday.
In boys U-18 semifinal, Saqib Hayyab beat Ahmed Kamil by 6-1, 6-3 and M Shoaib of SNGPL beat Aqib Hayyat by 6-0, 6-3.
In boys U-18 doubles semifinals, M Shoaib and Saqib Hayyat beat Faizan Fayyaz and Adnan Khan by 6-2, 6-2, and Ahmed Kamil and Zalan Khan beat 2nd Seeded Aaqib Umer and Abdullah by 6-3, 7-6.
In girls U-18 semifinals, Malika Malik beat Astafalia Arif by 6-2, 6-0, and Shimza Tahir beat Zara Salman by 6-2, 6-1.
In boys U-18 semifinals, Aqib Umer of Peshawar beat Ahmed Kamil of Lahore by 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 in a two and half hour long match. Nalain Abbas beat M Abdullah by 6-0, 6-1.
In U-14 semifinals, Hamid Israr of Peshawar beat Farman Shakeel of Gujranwala by 6-1, 3-1 (retired) and the second match will be played on Sunday.
In boys U-12 doubles semifinals Bilal Asim and Shaheel Tahir beat Ehtasham Arif and Waleed Javed by 6-1, 6-2. In boys U-14 doubles, Hamid Israr and Hassn beat Hamaza and Zalan by 6-0, 6-2.
