LAHORE: An upset was witnessed in men’s singles event of 2nd SNGPL All- Pakistan Tennis Championship here at the PLTA on Friday.
The 7th seeded Muhammad Shoaib of SNGPL upset 4th seed Heera Ashiq of Wapda by 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and 40 minutes long match. Both players played some good tennis but Shoaib broke Heera’s service 6 times in three-set encounter. Shoaib will now play semifinal against top seed Aqeel Khan who beat Yousaf Khalil by 6-2, 6-1. In other quarterfinals Shahzad Khan beat Barkatullah by 6-3, 6-2 and 2nd seed Muhammad Abid of Lahore beat 5th seed Mudassir Murtaza of Jahania 6-2.6-3. Shahzad Khan beat Barkatullah by 6-3, 6-2.
In Ladies single quarterfinals Sara Mehboob beat Marrium Mirza by 6-0, 6-1, Shimza Tahir beat Nida Akram by 6-2, 6-2, Esha Jawad beat Zara Salman by 6-2, 6-0. In men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals Ijaz Ahmed and Abbass Khan beat Asadullah and Barkat ullah by 6-4, 7-6, Yousaf Khalil and Ahmed Babar beat Zariab Peerzada and Mian Bilal by 6-3, 6-2, Shahzad PAF and Shahid Afridi beat Shakirullah and Farhan Khan by 6-0, 6-3, M Khaliq and M Abbas Malik beat Talha Waheed and Sikander Hayyat by 7-6, 6-4.
In boys Under-18 one quarterfinals Aqib Hyyat beat Zalan Khan by 6-2, 6-4. In Under-16 semifinal Nalain Abbas beat Muhammad Abdullah by 6-0, 6-1. In Under-14 semifinal Hamid Israr beat Farman Shakeel 6-1, 6-3.In Under-12 pre-quarterfinal Shakil Tahir beat Ehtesham Arif by 8-3. In Under- 10 quarterfinal Aqsa beat Talal Irfan by 8-2, Labika beat Abubaker Khalil by 8-3.
