BATKHELA: The personnel of the Malakand Levies allegedly killed a driver for not pulling over his car to a signal in Sakhakot on Wednesday, a senior official said.
Talking to The News, Deputy Commissioner Malakand, Ali Abbas Khan said that the Malakand Levies personnel, Muslim Khan, Iqbal, Kamran and Noorzada, had barricaded the Mardan road in Sakhakot to prevent the smuggling of the non-custom paid vehicles.
He said the Levies personnel made a signal to a car to stop but the driver sped away. He added that the Levies men opened fire on the suspected car in a bid to stop it.The official said the driver lost control of the car and it collided with an electric pole. He said the driver died on the spot and the local people caught the Levies personnel and tortured them for firing at the car.
Following the incident, a contingent of Malakand Levies headed by Assistant Commissioner Dargai tehsil Muhammad Shahab Ali reached the spot and secured release of the Levies personnel. Two Levies men were injured and were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Dargai. The Malakand Levies registered the case and started investigation.
