GUJRAT: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said the narrative of Nawaz Sharif regarding the role of “aliens” in the coming elections damaged the image of the state institutions.

He was talking to the media after addressing a congregation of JI workers from Gujranwala Division in Gujrat on Friday. He said those talking of facing unseen forces were trying to gain public sympathies. The JI chief urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to end the atmosphere of uncertainty about the elections and initiate measures to ensure fair polls.

Earlier, Siraj told party workers that the MMA was facing secular forces and corrupt people. He said the system based on corruption must be wiped out. He said the religious alliance was still at its initial stage, but its opponents had started criticising it. He said it was interesting when religious parties forged unity, the opponents made the comment that these people got together only for Islamabad (political power). But when these parties were divided, the opponents said religious people and parties could not unite because of their differences. He asked liberal people if any religious leader was named in the Panama Papers or any other scandal.

He said the PTI’s 11-point agenda was exactly like the JI’s five-point agenda presented at a JI Ijtema at the Minar-e-Pakistan many years back. He said the KP chief minister, his cabinet and the chief secretary lauded the performance of the JI in the province. JI Punjab Chief Mian Maqsood Ahmed, General Secretary Bilal Qudrat Butt and JI Gujrat Chief Dr Tariq Saleem also spoke on the occasion.
