ISLAMABAD: Former foreign minister Khawaja Asif Monday said ex-prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had done huge favours to the PPPP President and former president Asif Ali Zardari but he ditched him.
He expressed these views in Geo News programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath.”
Spilling the beans, Asif said when he and Nawaz Sharif along with other leaders went to Larkana after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto, Zardari took him and Nawaz Sharif to a separate room where he started pleading that he wanted to take over the PPP for which he needed their help.
Asif said he was laying bare all the facts with a heavy heart like the judgement passed against him by the court.
He said following the meeting a series of events happened in which the PPP leader Amin Faheem was politically disposed of.
“We helped Zardari in politically disposing of Amin Faheem and also helped him to take over the PPP.”
“Nawaz Sharif gave me the green light to help Zardari but he ditched us both though he should have been hugely indebted to us.”
If Zardari permits me, I can tell the whole tale in any programme. Bilawal Bhutto is witness to the entire story.
Zardari called Bilawal in my presence and told him that he had become the PPP Co-Chairman solely due to my help and cooperation,” Asif said.
He said PPP leader Farooq Naek was also witness to all what he had said in all honesty.
“We thought it was better for democracy if we worked together being the country’s big political parties.”
Kh Asif said Zardari lacked the support and confidence of Benazir Bhutto’s colleagues and aides and ZA Bhutto’s trusted, faithful and loyal companions. Asif said he could not disclose the derogatory and insulting words that Zardari uses against the party’s leaders, especially women.
