PESHAWAR: One of the first female drivers of an taxi service in the provincial capital was killed allegedly by her husband after the two developed differences over family issues, officials told on Monday.

Nabila Kanwal, one of the first female drivers of Careem, was killed by unidentified people in her house in Ijazabad, in the limits of the Phandu police station on April 28. A sister of the woman came from Islamabad and lodged the case at the Phandu police station. “The husband of the victim initially told police that some valuables were also missing from the house and the incident seems to be that of the robbery. However, our officers were not convinced and probed the incident,” Shahzada Kokab Farooq, Superintendent of Police (SP) City, told The News.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gulbahar, Hassan Jahangir, and Station House Officer Phandu, Irfan Khan, on Monday told a press conference that it was disclosed during investigation that the deceased woman had married one Ilyas a few years ago and had children from him. The two later separated and Nabila married another man Abdul Basit, who, too, was already married to his cousin.

When the police, the ASP said, interrogated the husband of the deceased, he told the cops that he had killed his wife after developing some differences over various issues. The official said the accused had been arrested and had confessed to have killed his wife. They said the cops had recovered five cellular phones of the deceased as well as other valuables from the accused.
