MULTAN: The business community of the Southern Punjab has demanded the government start cargo flights from the Multan International Airport immediately.
Talking here on Monday, the businessmen said that the airport was operational since March 9 when Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif inaugurated it. The businessmen also demanded completion of the Multan Modern Cargo Complex without any further delay to preserve perishable items. They said that the Multan International Airport was completed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 billion and now there was a dire need of launching cargo flights for the European Union, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Gulf states. They said that delay in introducing the direct cargo flights for Dubai and other Gulf states causing immense hardships to exporters of perishable food items. They demanded launching of direct cargo flights from Multan to London, Toronto, Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Bahrain.
