Minister sends legal notice to Mardan nazim
MARDAN: Provincial Minister for Education and Energy Mohammad Atif Khan on Monday again issued a legal notice to District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar for allegedly sending a letter to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other institutions levelling charges of corruption against the minister.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sources told The News that on March 7, this year, Himayatullah Mayar addressed a letter to director NAB Peshawar with copies to director Anti-Corruption Peshawar, and Director General Ehtesab Commission.
Himayatullah Mayar, who belongs to the Awami National Party (ANP), stated in his letter that Atif Khan had made appointments in different departments by misusing his authority and committing financial dishonesty.
Mayar’s letter alleged that Atif Khan had transferred 500 kanals of government land in his father’s name and also took commission in purchase of books, furniture and equipment for schools as well as in energy and power projects and in a contract of Malam Jabba tourist resort.
On March 26, Atif Khan sent a legal notice to Mayar through his legal counsel Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.“You are also given this legal notice to cease and desist from making such allegations,” the notice stated.
“My client also reserves his right to file appropriate proceedings against you in competent forums including civil suit for damages to the tune of Rs1 billion in case you fail to offer your unconditional apology as stated hereinbefore,” the notice said.Sources said that when Himayatullah Mayar did not respond to the legal notice, Atif Khan again sent him the notice.
