ROBBERS continued their hunting spree in the city on Sunday and deprived citizens of their valuables and vehicles worth millions of rupees.
Robbers looted valuables worth Rs400,000 from the house of one Imdad in Nawankot, Rs400,000 from a motorcyclist Manzoor in Naseerabad, valuables worth Rs380,000 from the house of one Raheel in Shahdara, Rs200,000 cash from a printing press in New Anarkali, Rs35,000 cash from the shop of one Atif in Gujarpura, Rs20,000 cash and a cell phone from a mobile shop in Mozang, and Rs168,000 cash from one Tallat in Samanabad.
Bikes were stolen from the areas of Gujarpura, Johar Town, Nawankot, Iqbal Town, Gulshan Iqbal, Badami Bagh, Racecourse, Bhatti Gate, Shahdara, Defence A, Mustafa Town, Civil Lines, Faisal Town, Liaqatabad, and Ghaziabad.
Girl dies: A 24-year-old divorced girl expired in a local hospital on Sunday, three days after she set herself on fire in the Nawankot area. Police said Ramzana Bibi, a resident of Jhuggian Nagran, Nawankot was depressed as her paramour, Waqas, who had borrowed Rs40,000 cash from her, was not returning her money by delaying tactics. On March 20, Ramzana exchanged harsh words with him over the said issue and warned him that she would end her life by setting herself on fire if he did not return her money. However, Waqas paid no heed to her threats, on which she got depressed and immolated herself. She was admitted to a local hospital where she died Sunday. Nawankot SHO said the girl had not been set on fire but she ended her life by setting herself ablaze. Police shifted the body to morgue.
INJURED: A couple received injuries when the roof of their dilapidated house collapsed in the Mustafabad area on Sunday.
Faqeer Mohammad, a resident of Gulistan Colony, Mustafabad, and his family members were asleep when the roof of their dilapidated house caved in. As a result, Faqeer Mohammad and his wife Karina Bibi were trapped under the debris, while their children escaped unhurt. Rescuers rushed them to a local hospital where their condition was said to be out of danger.
10 COPS PUNISHED: SSP Investigation Rana Ayaz Saleem awarded punishments to 10 inspectors and sub-inspectors on various charges, including poor performance, abuse of power, corruption and dereliction of duty. The punishments include censure and forfeiture of service. SSP forfeited two years service of in-charge Investigation Batapur Mohammad Sadique, in-charge Investigation Racecourse Falak Sher, in-charge Investigation Gulshan Iqbal Noor-ul-Hassan, and in-charge Investigation Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate Ahsanullah. He issued notices and warnings to in-charge Investigation Ichhra Naseer Ahmad, in-charge Investigation Mustafabad Mohammad Ameer, in-charge Investigation Qila Gujar Singh Mohammad Adil, in-charge Investigation Millat Park Farman Ali, in-charge Investigation Chung Khalid Yaqoob, and in-charge Investigation Old Anarkali Mohammad Nawaz.
probe: DIG Operations transferred the investigation of killing of three alleged robbers in Baghbanpura to CIA.
Reportedly, four armed men forced their entry into a jewellery shop at Sirajpura market but the owners and employees opened fire on them which resulted in an exchange of fire. Three of the robbers were killed while two jewellers injured.
Two robbers were identified as Iftikhar of Sahiwal and Ramzan of Vehari, while their third accomplice could not be identified. Baghbanpura police have registered a case on the complaint of the injured jeweller Shoaib.
BODY: Gulshan Ravi police Sunday handed over the body of a 40-year-old man, who had lost his life at the hands of robbers, to his family after autopsy. The robbers killed Inam on offering resistance. He was on his way back to home when two robbers intercepted him and shot him to death on resistance. The victim dealt in garments in Anarkali.
